Invercargill Regional Term III 2018
On 7 August, Verdon College sent 18 students in two divisions to the Chess Power Regional Tournament, held at Otatara Primary School. Our students performed very well, with the Intermediate Team qualifying for the Teams National Tournament.
Notable results were:
- The Intermediate team of Anton Ballantine, Lisa Pham, Jude Ballantyne, Fintan Mulligan, Ayla MacNaughton and Gayathry Gopimohan gained Second Place overall
- Tom Kerr was our highest-scoring Intermediate player, coming ninth in a field of 28
- Lisa Pham was placed Third overall in the Intermediate Girls competition
- The Senior team gained Third place overall, with top scorers Lance Daleon, Chaise Hill, Joseph Backhurst and Julius Sta Ana
- Lance Daleon was our highest-scoring Senior player, placing fifth out of 36 competitors.
